Tata Steel Limited is an Indian multinational steel-making company based in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is a subsidiary of the Tata Group. Formerly known as Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited (TISCO), Tata Steel is among the top steel producing companies in the world with an annual crude steel capacity of 34 million tonnes per annum. It is one of the world’s most geographically-diversified steel producers, with operations and commercial presence across the world. Tata Steel operates in 26 countries with key operations in India, Netherlands and United Kingdom, and employs around 80,500 people. Its largest plant (10 MTPA capacity) is located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The Indian product portfolio is divided into four segments – Automotive and Special Products; Industrial Products, Projects and Exports; Branded Products and Retail; and Services and Solutions.

Tata steel has initiated the following programs under its CSR intervention: They endeavour to preserve and promote tribal culture and heritage through various initiatives including tribal leadership programme, Samvaad tribal conclave and tribal language centres. In healthcare, they partner with governments and independent organisations worldwide to work towards improving the overall health and hygiene of the community in and around areas where we operate.

Tata Steel is carrying out various initiatives to develop sustainable products and demonstrate its benefits to stakeholders. They have been using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impact of their products considering its various life cycle stages. LCA studies helps them in obtaining eco-labels, identifying environmental hotspots and support customers and internal teams with product related environmental information. VAVE (Value Analysis and Value Engineering) initiative with automotive customers generates ideas on steel usage in a vehicle with an aim to reduce cost and weight of the vehicle.

Covid-19 Response:

Tata Steel has also been working closely with the Government of Jharkhand and Odisha to create modern and well-equipped isolation centres with 1,000 beds in Jamshedpur, Kalinganagar and Gopalpur. In addition, Tata Steel Foundation has also taken up the initiatives to work with Jamshedpur District Administration to launch the Thought for Food program to provide nutritious meals to 50,000 most vulnerable people including 80 settlements in and around Jamshedpur and also undertakes digital outreach program to 200 Gram Panchayats in Odisha and Jharkhand covering more than 10000 people to spread awareness of Covid-19 and the hygiene precautions to follow.

Their shareholding pattern consists of Promoters and Promoter Group having 34.41% of shares, Public having 24.27% shares, Government having 0.10% followed by FII’s having 21.94% shares and DII’s with 19.28% shares.
