The popularity of the capital market is increasing, especially amongst the youth of India, their investment pattern is changing. This new generation has a fair share of opportunity to put money to good use. Let’s understand the relationship between Investment Pattern and Indian Youth.
Today’s generation is not scared of taking risks. They have plans for how they want to use their money. One advantage is that Indian youth knows the importance of Investment and its benefits as well. Although there is still visible hesitancy in putting money in.
Traditional saving options like fixed deposits and post office are now passe. They are not popular or attractive options amongst the investment patterns of the youth. Because the returns on them are lower. Safety and security are still influential in determining the direction of investment.
Youth also gives ample importance to tax-saving while making investment choices. Since traditional saving choices rarely have any tax saving schemes youth is far less interested in them, therefore, keeping the youngsters away from them.
The mutual fund has gained the favor of the youngsters today. Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is a widely chosen investment option. As the youngsters have just started earning and do not have a huge bank balance. The small payments every month are more convenient than a Bulk Payment. This makes SIP highly desirable and makes it a very common option in its investment pattern.
Mutual Funds also have the benefit of requiring lesser financial competence as they are managed by experts. They
even provide higher returns and better prospects than Bank Accounts.
Gold is still preferred to some extent especially when it comes to females. However, it is also an expensive investment. It requires a big purse to start with the hope of having a bigger purse.
Investments and investing patterns are not developed just like that. Instead, youngsters today consider every option. The pros and cons of each option are weighed carefully before the decision to invest the hard-earned money is taken.
Youngsters today know about the options available to them due to the rapid spread of information in recent times. They are not always sure about how to go about investing in newer ways actively.
The New breed
But there remains a huge chunk of this fresh breed that is aloof and unaware of investments. Their investment pattern is still not known. They need to be guided but it has to be done in a way that is under their lifestyle. Seminars and workshops, although still popular, are no longer the kind of options to go for these tech-savvy individuals.
If you have to train this generation to start investing, do it in their style. So you have their attention, remember holding the attention span is the key here.
Podcasts, online videos, forums, and tutorials are the way of learning of the young generation. The social media platforms especially Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn along with websites, and short blogs can be a medium to spread awareness about various options available for young investors.
Investor Education
Investor education can play a vital role in improving the active participation of the investors in the market, which can help them and us in:
- Developing an interest in Investment.
- The informed investment, going for the right options, and
- Getting good returns.
Media too can highlight young investors through newspaper columns. E-Newspaper columns would encourage more participation in the capital market from the young.
