Ashok Leyland is an Indian multinational automotive manufacturer company, headquartered in Chennai. It is owned by the Hinduja Group. It was founded in 1948 as Ashok Motors and became Ashok Leyland. Ashok Leyland is the second-largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India, the third-largest manufacturer of buses in the world, and the tenth-largest manufacturers of trucks. With the corporate office located in Chennai, its manufacturing facilities are spread across the country namely Ennore (Tamil Nadu), Bhandara (Maharashtra), Hosur (two units), Alwar (Rajasthan) and Pantnagar (Uttarakhand).
Ashok Leyland also has manufacturing units spread across the globe with a bus manufacturing facility in Ras Al Khaimah (UAE), one at Leeds (United Kingdom). Ashok Leyland has recently been ranked as 34th best brand in India. With the largest fleet of logistics vehicles deployed in the Indian Army and significant partnerships with armed forces across the globe. Ashok Leyland has a well-diversified portfolio across the automobile industry. Ashok Leyland has a product range from 1T GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) to 55T GTW (Gross Trailer Weight) in trucks, 9 to 80 seater buses, vehicles for defence and special applications, and diesel engines for industrial, genset and marine applications.
The CSR programs of the Company enables: Promoting education by enhancing the learning levels of children in primary and middle school, promoting holistic child development focussing on health, nutrition, life skills, art & culture as part of learning, provide sustained initiatives for Hygienic drinking water, enhancing environmental and natural capital through activities which focus on conservation of lakes, ponds, natural springs.
The program Road to School (RTS) is a holistic child development program which supports children of Government primary and middle schools focussed on remedial education, improvement in learning levels, nutrition, physical fitness & health, life skill education.
Ashok Leyland has increased the sourcing of clean energy to 60% for its countrywide operations. Now 75% of its energy consumption in Tamil Nadu and 60% throughout India is procured through the solar rooftop, solar ground mount, and wind-based renewable energy. All plants of Ashok Leyland harvest rainwater, have low flow water systems to minimise water consumption and recycle all waste to avoid it going to the landfills. This has led Ashok Leyland to be a net water positive company. In line with Ashok Leyland’s water positive initiative, the solar plant uses robotic cleaning technology, for regular cleaning of solar modules. This innovative methodology is estimated to conserve 9 million litres of water annually.
Their shareholding pattern consists of Promoters and Promoter Group having 51.54% of shares, Public having 18.15% shares, Government having 0.08% followed by FII’s having 17.04% shares and DII’s with 13.20% shares.
