Mahindra & Mahindra Limited is an Indian multinational automotive manufacturing corporation headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was established in 1945 as Muhammad & Mahindra and later renamed as Mahindra and Mahindra. J.C. Mahindra, K.C. Mahindra and M.G. Muhammad are the founders of M&M. It is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers by production in India and the largest manufacturer of tractors in the world. It is a part of the Mahindra Group, an Indian conglomerate. Its major competitors in the Indian market include Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. M&M undertakes 22 industries and 150+ companies. 

Their journey commenced with getting into the steel business, and over time, they expanded to 22 key industries. A need for change in the agricultural practices pushed them to foray into that sector right before the agriculture revolution began in India, they became one of the key torch-bearers of the IT revolution in the country. Their focus now lies in developing alternate energy sources because they believe energy conservation will play a huge role in ensuring a better future – for not just our country and communities, but the entire world.

CSR Mission of the company is to focus its efforts within the constituencies of Girls, Youth & Farmers through programmes designed in the domains of Education, Health and Environment, Slum Area Development, Disaster management, including relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

Mahindra has partnerships with many climate organisations around the world such as World Economic Forum, Unites Nations organisations. Mahindra has been prescient in its investment in electric vehicles and renewable energy. It has invested in shared mobility, micro-irrigation, green buildings, sustainable cities, automobile recycling, cloud computing and converting food waste to bio-CNG.

Covid-19 Response

A series of initiatives taken by M&M in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. They produced and delivered 250,000 face shields and 350,000 face masks to frontline medical staff, police, Bombay Municipal Corporation and community members and also produced and supplied 34,000 litres of disinfectants and sanitizers. 50 of their resorts across India have been made available as temporary care facilities to the government. Free emergency cab services launched in nine cities for doctors, nurses, single mothers, specially-abled individuals and senior citizens.

Their shareholding pattern consists of Promoters and Promoter Group having 19.46% of shares, Non-promoter Group having 4.10%, Government having 0.07% Public having 10.20% shares following by FII’s having 40.05% shares and DII’s with 26.12% shares.
