United Breweries Holdings Limited or UB Group is an Indian conglomerate company headquartered in Bangalore (Karnataka), India. Its core business includes beverages and investments in various sectors. The company markets beer under the Kingfisher brand, and owns various other brands of alcoholic beverages. It also launched Kingfisher Airlines, an airline in India whose operation has been halted after problems in 2014. The UB Group was founded by a Scotsman, Thomas Leishman, in 1915. The company was bought by the late Mr. Vittal Mallya.
The company’s key products are Fertilizer, Engineering, Aviation, Alcoholic beverages in 1947. Today each one of the 89,763 outlets selling beer in India, sell at least one brand from United Breweries. Their mission is to be the recognized leader in their target markets.
UBL has integrated CSR in its corporate strategy and intends to drive it with a vision to bring about sustainable social development for its co-communities. They operate from a large number of locations all across the country that is characterized by non-uniformity in level of awareness, socio-economic development, education, poverty, practices and rituals. While India is a very large country with multitude of social issues and concerns, UBL has decided to focus on the communities residing in the vicinity of its breweries as a starting point for its CSR interventions. They focus on water conservation, primary health care, and primary education for the children living in rural or village. Not only all of this, but they are promoting the message of responsible consumption of alcohol among the masses.
Their shareholding pattern consists of Promoters and Promoter Group having 72.71% of shares, Public having 6.23% shares, Government having 1.16% shares following by FII’s having 9.80% shares and DII’s with 10.01 % shares.
