TATA Power is part of TATA group which is an Indian electric utility based in Mumbai. The company focuses on generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity. With an installed electricity generation capacity of 12,808 MW, it is India’s largest integrated power company providing power supply to 9.5 million customers. In February 2017, Tata Power became the first Indian company to ship over 1 GW solar modules and is the number one solar rooftop EPC company for six years in a row.
Tata Power has a 51:49 joint venture with PowerGrid Corporation of India for the 1,200 km (750 mi) Tata transmission project, India’s first transmission project executed with public-private partnership financing. The company has also a 74:26 joint venture with Damodar Valley Corporation for 1,050 MW coal-based thermal power plant. In 2016, Tata Power made significant inroads into the renewable energy market in India by means of its acquisition of Welspun Renewables, for a record price of $1.3 billion, the largest acquisition in the Indian renewables sector.
Sustainability being their core philosophy, Tata Power leads the way in generation of non-emitting sources of energy that provide low-cost electricity and help reduce carbon emissions. With a 30% clean energy portfolio, aiming to be 40-50% by 2025, Tata Power comprises the entire gamut of alternate sources to power the world.
TATA Power has potential to expand since it has large reserves and low Debt-Equity Ratio. The board of directors recommended a dividend of Rs 1.55 per equity share for the year ended on 31st March 2021. Meanwhile, TATA Power total income grew 32.71% and stood at Rs 10,222.48 crores for Q4FY21, as compared to Rs 7,702.84 crores in Q3FY21, net profit is Rs 555.38 crores (122 % more than Q3) in Q4FY21 against Rs 250.61 crores in Q3FY21.
