Coal India Limited
Coal India Limited (CIL) is an Indian government-owned coal mining and refining corporation. It was established in 1975. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Coal, Government of India headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is the largest coal-producing company in the world and a Maharatna public sector undertaking. It is also the fifth largest employer in India with nearly 272,000 employees. The company contributes around 82% to the total coal production in India.
CIL functions through its subsidiaries in 85 mining areas spread over eight (8) states of India. Coal India Limited has 345 mines of which 151 are underground, 172 open cast and 22 mixed mines. CIL is presently operating 13 coal washeries, with a total washing capacity of 35.38 MTY. During 2020-21, CIL produced 596.22 Million Tonnes of coal under challenging and adverse conditions achieving 90% of its target.
CIL main CSR activities: Welfare measures for the community at large, to ensure the poorer sections of the society derive the maximum benefit, Contribution to the society by way of social and cultural development, imparting education, training, and social awareness. Protection and safeguard of the environment and maintaining the ecological balance.
CIL sustainable mining mantra ahead i.e. artificial water bodies for water storage and ground water recharge, Pisciculture in abandon exhausted mines, rain water harvesting and supply of this water to nearby localities after treatment etc., likewise the OB dump are also reclaimed scientifically in consultation with world renowned Scientific institutions creating Eco-restoration site, Eco-parks, Mine tourism with and three-tier plantation with native species and thus environment of mining area are designed to become a valuable part of ecosystem in the area. Eco Restoration work on OB dump at Nigahi Project of NCL was carried out with Scientific inputs from FRI, Dehradun (ICFRE). CCL has installed 400 KWp solar power plant at CCL (HQ) and 220 KWp solar power plant at CCL Gandhinagar Hospital.
Covid-19 Response:
Distribution of food ration to 6000 persons during COVID-19 lockdown, Financial assistance for equipment for development of sanitization chambers for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Financial assistance for distribution of solar lamp kits to school children under Gandhi Global Solar Yatra (GGSY) and provide financial assistance for 2 water ambulances.
Their shareholding pattern consists of Promoters and Promoter Group having 66.13% of shares, Public having 5.69% shares, Government having 0.07% following by FII’s having 6.56% shares and DII’s with 21.54% shares.
