The company was formerly known as United Phosphorus Limited, is an Indian multinational company founded on 29 May 1969. United Phosphorus Limited was established on 29 May 1969. The company changed its name to UPL Limited in October 2013. The agro business is the company’s primary source of revenue and includes the manufacture and marketing of conventional agrochemical products, seeds and other agricultural related products. The non-agro segment includes the manufacture and marketing of industrial chemical and other non-agricultural related products such as fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, plant growth and regulators, rodenticides, industrial and specialty chemicals, and nutrifeeds.
UPL products are sold in 150+ countries. The company’s vision is to be the icon for technology growth and innovation. The mission statement of the company says change the game – to make every single food product more sustainable. It manufactures and markets agrochemicals, industrial chemicals, chemical intermediates, and specialty chemicals, and also offers crop protection solutions.
Their CSR initiative is called as UPL Pragati which means PROGRESS and is in line with Vision. The Six CSR focus areas for community to progress are: Education and Empowerment, Employability and Entrepreneurship, Agricultural development, Heath and Sanitation, Environment and Nature conservation, National/Local area need.
COVID-19 INITIATIVES:
They have opened their factories to ensure farmers get everything they need, and food continues to reach tables. Innovative ideas like deploying farm sprayers for sanitization of public spaces are making an on-ground difference in this pandemic. They have transformed some of their factories to manufacture hand sanitizers, which are being distributed to health authorities, nurses, local communities and more. They are collaborating with people, organizations and governments around the world. Donation of masks, PPEs, hand sanitizers to the police force, local hospitals, pharmacies, health care workers, government offices is underway to help protect these frontline workers. Awareness campaigns on Covid-19 are being conducted for communities through posters and announcements in many Asian countries.
